Valor’s ‘Healthy Habits’ initiative has been shortlisted for ‘Best Employee Engagement Strategy’ in the HR Excellence Awards.
As a people-focused business, Valor Hospitality wanted to put a programme in place that would help teams across all 34 of its UK hotels and its central management team. The aim of Healthy Habits was to inspire people to commit to a new habit or activity, either as a personal goal or within a team, doing something that would make a lasting, positive impact on their health. The first 100 team members to sign up received £50 towards a new pair of trainers and £50 towards a new bike (coinciding with the recent Cycle to Work scheme launch).
Over 175 Hotelitarians® took part and shared their progress on the company’s private colleague Facebook page which saw an engagement increase of 34%, as people shared their stories and encouraged others. The stories touched the hearts of many and positively influenced not only the team members taking part but families too. The most inspiring stories got a split of a £5,000 prize pot.
Three overall winners each received £500 and 12 additional winners received £100 in vouchers. Crowne Plaza Plymouth was also awarded a £1,000 party fund due to its combined efforts throughout the campaign. The team are continuing their healthy habits and still regularly takes part in group exercise around their working hours.
Brian McCarthy, managing director of UK and Europe at Valor Hospitality, said:
“I’m massively proud of all those who have committed to our Healthy Habits initiative and have become seriously active over the past few weeks. I never want to preach; I never want to appear “holier- than -thou” but I am a big believer that an active and healthy lifestyle is far more fun. If our campaign helped even one person, make a permanent lifestyle change and become a regular exerciser then I am a happy man!”
Valor’s focus on engagement and well-being resulted in:
- 80% of the team cited that their well-being is the same or better now than pre-pandemic
- 96% felt confident in the new norm
- 97% remained confidently aligned with our values
Valor was recently named for the third time as a Best Place to Work in Hospitality 2022 by The Caterer – a highly prestigious accolade within the hospitality sector. Its approach is industry-leading and is championed at all levels of the business, with initiatives like Healthy Habits capturing that spirit that when you put people first, good things happen.
The HR Excellence award ceremony will take place in London on December 6th 2022.
