January 2023 – Global hotel management company, Valor Hospitality, is focusing on continuing to build its employer brand in 2023 with the appointment of new resourcing and talent director, Ben Gabbitas.
With talent attraction, talent development and retention of talent at the core of his role, Ben will develop recruitment strategies along with recruitment-based technologies, to ensure Valor is attracting people with the right skills, behaviours and values whilst enabling the continued development of the Valor team through reimagined development programmes.
Having been named a ‘best place to work’ three times in the last five years by The Caterer, Valor’s 2023 strategy is to make this a key message for job seekers and showcase its investment in employees’ health and wellbeing. Valor’s investment in its people resulted in 80% of colleagues citing in an employee survey that their wellbeing has returned to pre-pandemic or improved levels. Part of Ben’s role will be to continue to expertly position and develop this award-winning employee value proposition.
On his new role, Ben said: “What attracted me to Valor Hospitality was the opportunity to experience the many different brands that we operate with. Each is slightly different with different guest expectations, but all are operated with a people-first approach.
“I’m looking forward to getting a better understanding of these brands and the great people we have operating them within Valor.
“I’m also excited to showcase the brilliant career opportunities on offer at Valor, and the industry as a whole. Hospitality really can offer something for everyone from a job that fits around the school run or college course, through to a full-time management or director position.”
The hospitality industry was one of the hardest-hit by both Brexit and the pandemic, staff shortages are having a continuous effect on the sector, Valor’s priority is to illustrate to job seekers that the industry is a career of choice and break down the perception that hospitality is only a transient job.
Ben said: “Many have the perception that hospitality is better suited to students and part-time workers. Whilst it certainly is well positioned for them, hospitality can also offer rewarding careers and opportunities to learn and develop as you work. Already in my short time at Valor Hospitality, I have met many people who started in team member positions and have now gone on to management roles within the business.
“Valor Hospitality is a fantastic business that views its team members as key assets to the business and its continued success. My job is to ensure that as an organisation we are attracting, recruiting and retaining the best people in our hotels across the many different roles that we offer.”
Valor Hospitality has a UK portfolio of 37 hotels, with almost 3,000 UK team members.
