Michael Devereux is Chief Development Officer of Valor Africa.
Michael’s specialty is hotel acquisitions and development in the Sub Saharan and Indian Ocean region. Within his over 30 years of experience in the hotel industry, Michael has held roles in hotel operations, project design, turnkey developments, consultancy, and corporate development strategy.
Prior to InnSight Advisory, he was Senior Development Director for Hilton Sub Saharan Africa, Senior Director for Starwood/Marriott where he was the custodian of all Starwood (11 brands), Marriott (20 brands) and Hilton (17 brands) brands growth in Sub Saharan Africa. Most notably the establishment of the 6 Four Points by Sheraton hotels in East Africa. Michael has also held a position as Development Manager for Legacy Hotels & Resorts for 5 years based in Johannesburg.
Apart from his consultancy roles Michael has held various managerial positions in Southern Sun and Sun International. Michael holds a National Diploma in hospitality management from Wits Hotel School.
He lives in the Cape Winelands region with his wife and two teenage children. His passions, apart from hospitality, include cooking and entertaining, as well as golf, cycling, squash, tennis, and fine wines.
